Abos Seek New Manager

2010 June 9

After two highly successful seasons in charge, Tom and Brian have stepped down as the Abos management team and the club would like to thank them for all of their work over the past two seasons.

Pre-season training is scheduled to start in July, with the AAFA season getting underway on Saturday 7th August, and the club is now looking to appoint a new manager or management team for season 2010/11.

Anyone who is interested in the role or who wishes any further information is asked to contact the club secretary, Geoff Clark, on 07729 046103.

Old Aberdonians 3-1 Great Western Utd

Premier Division on Wednesday 2nd June at Balgownie

The Abos 43rd and final competitive fixture of the season had a lot more at stake than most end of season games do. Great Western were the visitors and required all 3 points to avoid relegation and send down AC Mill Inn in their place. The Abos strong finish to the season meant they still had a chance of finishing fourth which would result in qualification for next season’s John Todd Memorial Trophy.

Abos Ease Past Cove

Old Aberdonians 2 – 0 Cove Thistle

Premier Division on Saturday 31st May at Balgownie

With league safety assured the Abos were able to go out and enjoy their last two games of the season and had their sights set on finishing as high as possible. The first opposition to stand in their way were Cove who had fought back from three goals down to beat the Abos in a recent meeting. However the Abos knew that a victory today would relegate the reigning champions.

Premier League on Wednesday 26th May at Balgownie

The Abos entered this midweek encounter knowing a win would confirm premier league status for another season and also keep alive their hopes of finishing as high as 4th. Clark returned in goals meaning the home team were at full strength on a wet evening at Balgownie.

Premier Division on Saturday 22nd May at Woodside Sports Complex

It was three weeks since Great Western last played as they waited to complete their league campaign with two matches against Old Aberdonians. The first of those matches took place at Woodside Sports Complex on a sunny hot day. Both teams were close to full strength with Brown surprisingly lining up in goals for the home team. Seemingly his suspension for his 2 red cards against the Abos in a recent cup clash has yet to take effect.

Relegation Still a Possibility After Cove Loss

Premier Division on Saturday 15th May 2010 at Catto Park

Following Wednesdays win at AC Mill Inn the Abos knew a win at Cove would secure premier league status for another season. Despite Cove’s low league position their home record was strong and a hard 90 minutes lay ahead. The late withdrawal of keeper Clark meant a fair bit of reshuffling was required in the Abos starting line up.

AC Mill Inn 1-2 Old Aberdonians

Premier Division on Wednesday 12th May at Mineralwell Park, Stonehaven

Following a run of seven consecutive defeats that had seen the Abos plummet down the league table and into the relegation places they travelled to Stonehaven for a crucial 6 pointer against AC Mill Inn. A week’s break had allowed the return of defenders of Craig, Edwards and Good who looked to shore up a defence that had shipped 19 goals in 4 games.

Association Cup Quarter Final on Wednesday 5th May at Echt

The Abos last chance of silverware meant facing league leaders Echt in this quarter final tie. Despite an encouraging start which saw Cameron come close with a header it was Echt who broke the deadlock when the referee handed the home team a penalty after a soft handball against Purdon. Immediately confidence was drained from a number of the Abos players perhaps as a result of the wretched run of form they have been on of late.

Premier Division on Monday 3rd May at Banchory

The Abos had the chance to relegate Banchory while at the same time give themselves some breathing space in what had now turned into a relegation struggle. They were able to welcome back keeper Clark and made a very quick start to the game.
