Abos Dominate but Fail to Convert Chances
Banchory 4 – 1 Old Aberdonians
Premier Division on Monday 3rd May at Banchory
The Abos had the chance to relegate Banchory while at the same time give themselves some breathing space in what had now turned into a relegation struggle. They were able to welcome back keeper Clark and made a very quick start to the game.
Wilson looked bright on the left hand side, terrorising the right back on a number of occasions as the Abos peppered the home goal. The breakthrough came when Ashton flicked in Pocock’s long throw after 28 minutes.
Banchory then equalised against the run of play when a midfield run wasn’t picked up and a clever flick went past Clark.
Half-time: 1-1
The Abos dominated from the off in the second half with Cameron shooting over from 10 yards in the 46th minute.
Chances came and went with Fraser, Cameron and Roper all trying for that second goal. Fraser hit the post and saw the ball roll along the line but the break just didn’t come their way.
Unbelievably it was Banchory who took the lead as they broke from an Abos corner and with Wyness being left exposed at the back it was a simple finish with just 10 minutes to go.
The Abos threw on a couple of attackers leaving just Mullen and Pocock at the back but the tactics backfired with two more break away goals giving Banchory a flattering 4-1 victory.
