Uni’ Coast to Comfortable Win
University 3 – 0 Old Aberdonians
Premier Division on Monday 26th April at Hillhead
The out of form Abos faced the high flying students still missing a number of players through injury. The Uni’ started the brighter and were rewarded with an early breakthrough. The Abos failed to clear a corner and when the ball was swung back in it was Lamont who ghosted in at the back post to guide his header past Pocock.
The Abos began to come into the game with Sullivan and Fraser using their pace to worry the home defence. They combined well on one occasion but Fraser’s shot lacked power. The Uni’ midfield were doing a good job of breaking up the Abos attacks, sometimes in an illegal manner.
Just as the Abos looked to be getting to half time still in the game they conceded and it was Lamont again with the sucker punch goal. The Abos had a corner and when it was cleared they had left themselves too exposed at the back and Lamont was able to beat MacDonald to the ball on the halfway line before striding towards goal and clinically slotting the ball into the corner of the net.
Half-time: 2-0
Any hopes the Abos had of getting back into the game were killed just 5 minutes into the second half. Again it was Lamont pulling the strings and his defence splitting pass released Leitch who calmly slotted it home.
Pocock had to save the Abos on a couple more occasions while the Abos pushed for a consolation but it just wasn’t to be their day. Cameron looked the most likely but whenever he ventured into threatening positions he was crowded out by a well organised defence.
