Nicolls Friendly Cancelled

The continuing cold snap put paid to any possibility of the friendly at Kaimhill going ahead on Wednesday evening. The Abos will hope to return to competitive action with the Scottish Cup fifth round tie at Blantyre United on Saturday 9th January 2010.

Before then two training sessions should go ahead. The Sports Village is the venue for an indoor session next Monday at 6pm. Regular Wednesday training at Keith Park resumes on Wednesday 6th, again starting at 6pm.

Cup Draws

Abos were drawn away from home to Blantyre United in the 5th Round of the Scottish Cup. The tie is to take place on Saturday 9th January. Blantyre play in the Lanarkshire Premier Division and their road to the 5th Round is as undernoted.

1st round – bye
2nd round – 4-2 v Partick West (a) of the GGPL
3rd round – 6-1 v Alford (h)
4th round – 2-1 v Stivenstoun (h) (Paisley & District AFA)

We have booked a 24 seater coach which will be leaving from Kings College at 9 a.m. sharp!

In the North of Scotland Cup 3rd Round we have been drawn at home to Bankhead who play in Division Two (East).

Cammachmore Game Off

The AFC Trophy second round tie against Cammachmore which was scheduled to go ahead today was postponed due to a frozen pitch at Newtonhill.

The final game of 2009 will take place on Saturday19th December.

Forthcoming Fixtures

After Saturday’s 3-3 draw against league leaders Bon-Accord City, the Abos return to cup action over the next couple of weeks.

On Saturday 28th November we visit Sheddocksley to take on Glendale Youth in the second round of the North of Scotland Amateur Cup. This will be followed by the Fosters Scottish Amateur Cup tie against Loudoun Amateurs of the Ayrshire AFA at Balgownie on Saturday 5th December, where victory would see the Abos reach the fifth round of the competition for the first time since season 2000/01.

Abos draw Loudoun Amateurs in the Scottish Amateur Cup

The Abos have been given a home tie against Ayrshire side Loudoun Amateurs in the fourth round of the Fosters Scottish Amateur Cup.

Following a bye in the first round of this season’s competition, Loudoun enjoyed a 2-1 away win against Whitehill FPs of the Scottish AFL in round two and then defeated Lanarkshire side FC Dal Riata 3-2 at home in the third round.

The tie against is likely to take place at Balgownie on Saturday 5th December.

Abos Draw Windygates in Scottish Cup

The Abos have been drawn at home against Fife side Windygates in the third round of the Fosters Scottish Amateur Cup. The Fife Amateur FA comprises three divisions – Premier, First and Second – and Windygates are currently mid-table in the First Division. They had a bye in the opening round of this season’s Scottish Amateur Cup and then enjoyed a 2-1 home win against Balerno Athletic of the Lothian and Edinburgh AFA in round two. The tie is likely to be played at Balgownie on Saturday 7th November.

Cup Draws and New Faces

The Abos will meet lower division opposition away from home in the second round of the AFC Trophy and the Association Trophy, having drawn against Cammachmore and Bervie Caledonian respectively.

We can also welcome aboard three new faces and one old one. Luther Sullivan played well in his debut last week against Banchory. Allan Barr has also signed having played for Glasgow University the last three seasons. Eduardo Pereira shall be training with us shortly with a view to signing. Eduardo is completing a Masters degree at Aberdeen. Finally, we are hoping to re-sign Gordon Syme who some of you know from a previous short stint at the Abos. Gordon is likely to be returning to Aberdeen this month.

RGU Friendly

RGU have invited us to play a friendly on Monday 21st September. We have a few new signings – for which see above post – who need to get up to match fitness and a few games in succession should hopefully get us back on track after the setback against Banchory.

The game is at Garthdee (astro pitch) – meet at 7.20 for an 8.05 kick-off. Please contact me only if you are NOT available for this game.

Scottish & North of Scotland Cup draws

The Abos pulled out an interesting first round fixture in each of these competitions. In the North Of Scotland Cup Abos have a tough tie at Stonehaven hosted by Cowie Thistle. In the Scottish Cup Abos get to bore the students of the University Strollers with ‘when I was a lad’ stories and castigate them for failing to win the fair play trophy last season. The winner of that tie is drawn at home to Stoneywood Amateurs in the second round.
